1 QUEUE_CONTROL Purpose and Functions of the QUEUE_CONTROL Program The QUEUE_CONTROL program allow the user to veiw and alter characteristics of a print queue and the jobs that are in that queue. The functions of the programs are: Queue: Changes the current print queue Form: Changes the Form that is mounted on the current print queue Status: Changes the status of the queue from stopped to started or visa versa Print: Send a file to the current print queue Requeue: Sends a job form the current print queue to another print queue Delete: Deletes a job from the print queue Hold: Prevents the printing of a job by placing it on hold Release: Allow the printing of a job that is on hold Show Queue: Shows all the jobs in the print queue Help: Displays the help screen Exit: Exits the program 1 QUEUE The QUEUE function allows the user to change the print queue that the QUEUE_CONTTOL program refers to. To Select the QUEUE function, use the arrow keys to highlight QUEUE on the menu and press return. You may then type the name of the queue that you wish to look at or alter. If you type an invalid queue name, you will be prompted to re-enter a new queue name. To abort the function and keep the same queue, just press return. If you do not enter a valid queue name, you will be prompted again untill you do. The program will them update the information that is displayed and you may make you next menu selection. 1 FORM The FORM function allows the user to change the form that is mounted on the current print queue. This does not effect any job that is currently printing and will take affect after the curremtly executing job is completed. To select the FORM function, use the arrow keys to highlight the word FORM on the menu and press return. You may then type then name of the form that you would like to be mounted on the current print queue. To see a list of valid forms, type 'L' and press RETURN. You will then see a message telling you whether the operation was a success or not. Press any key and the program will update the information and you may make your next selection. 1 STATUS The STATUS function allows you to stop the current queue if it is started or stalled, or start the queue if it is stopped or paused. To Select the STATUS function, use the arrow keys to highlight the word STATUS on the menu and press return. STOPPING THE QUEUE To stop and reset the queue, use the arrow keys to highlight RESET and press return. Resetting the queue stops the job that is currently printing. That job will start again, from the beginning, when the queue is started. To stop the queue '/NEXT', use the arrow keys to select NEXT. Preformming a STOP/NEXT does not efffect the job that is currenttly printing. It does, however, prevent any more jobs from starting. If you do not want to stop the queue, use the arrow keys to select NO. STARTING THE QUEUE To start the que, use the arrow keys to select YES, and press return. program will then update the information dispalyed and you may make your next selection. 1 NEXT To stop the queue '/NEXT', use the arrow keys to select NEXT. That job will start again, from the beginning, when the queue is started. 1 PRINT The PRINT functions allows you to send a file to a print queue to be printed. To select the PRINT function, use the arrow keys to highlight the word PRINT on the menu and press return. You may then type the name of the file that you want to be printed. Then you will be asked to enter the form name that will be used to print the file. If the correct form is DEFAULT then press return. If you would like different form, delete the word 'DEFAULT' and type the new form name. To see a list of valid Forms, delete the word 'DEFAULT', press the 'L' key, and then press the RETURN key. You will then see a message telling you whether the operation was a sucess or not. Press any key and the program will update the information and you may make your next selection. 1 JOBS The JOBS function allows you to Requeue, Delete, Hold and release jobs in the current print queue. To select the JOBS function, simply use the arrow keys to highlight the word JOBS on the menu and press return. At that time you will see a menu wil the following choices: Requeue, Delete, Hold, Release To select the item you you want use the arrow keys to move the cursor to the appropriate options and press return. 1 REQUEUE The REQUEUE function allows you to send a job that is Pending on the current print queue to a different print queue. To select the REQUEUE function, use the arrow keys to highlight the word REQUEUE on the JOBS menu and press return. At that time you will see a list of all then job in the queue, and you will be asked to enter the job number to be requeued Enter the job number from the NUMBER column that you want to be requeued. Please note that the job's status must be PENDING to be requeued, you can not requeu a job that is printing. You will then be asked to enter the new queue name. Then you may type the name of the print queue that you would like the job to be printed at. You will then see a message telling you whether the operation was a sucess or not. Press any key and the program will update the information and you may make your next selection. 1 DELETE The DELETE function allows you to remove a job from the current print queue. To select the DELETE function, use the arrow keys to highlight the word DELETE on the JOBS menu and press return. At that time you will see a list of jobs in the queue. Enter the job number from the NUMBER column that you want to be deleted. Please note that the job's status must be PENDING if it is going to be put on hold. If the job is EXECUTING and you want to stop it, you must use the STATUS function to stop and reset the queue You will then see a message telling you whether the operation was a sucess or not. Press any key and the program will update the information and you may make your next selection. 1 HOLD The HOLD function allows you to prevent a job from being printed by temporaily placing it on hold. The file can be taken off hold be using the release function. To select the HOLD function, use the arrow keys to hightlight the word HOLD on the JOBS menu and press return. At that time you will see the list of jobs in the queue. Enter the job number from the NUMBER column that you want to be put on hold. You will then see a message telling you whether the operation was a sucess or not. Press any key and the program will update the information and you may make your next selection. 1 RELEASE The RELEASE function allows you to print a job that is on hold. To select the RELEASE function, simply use the arrow keys to highlight the word RELEASE on the JOBS menu and press return. At that time you will see the list of jobs in the queue. Enter the job number from the NUMBER column that you want to be released. You will then see a message telling you whether the operation was a sucess or not. Press any key and the program will update the information and you may make your next selection. 1 SHOW QUEUE The SHOW QUEUE function allows you to veiw all the jobs in the current print queue. To select the SHOW QUEUE function, use the arrow keys to highlight the words SHOW QUEUE on the JOBS menu and press return. At that time you will see the list of jobs in the queue. NAME: The name of the file or job that is to be printed OWNER: The user name of the person who sent the job NUMBER: The entry number of the job SIZE: The size of the job in blocks STATUS: The status of the job HOLDING: On hold EXECUTING: Currently printing TIMED: Holding until a specifed time. A timed job can not be printed using The RELEASE function. PENDING: Waiting to be executed Press return and you are ready to make your next selection. 1 EXIT The EXIT function allows you to exit the QUEUE_CONTROL program. To select the EXIT Function, use the arrow keys to highlight the word EXIT on the main menu and press return, or the F10 key on the top row of your keyboard. At that time you will be asked if you really want to exit. To exit, press return. To continue using QUEUE_CONTROL, use the down arrow key to highlight NO and press return.
