I'm running a fresh installation of Compaq Secure Web Server (CSWS) V2.0. It works like a champ for serving straight HTML files quickly, but for any pages that include images, only smaller images are displayed successfully (albeit slowly). Larger images display partially and then hang, or I get an error similar to the following: The image "http://192.168.1.78/spitfire.jpg" cannot be displayed, because it contains errors. I just had to reboot to install the VMS732_UPDATE V3.0 patch suite. Following the reboot, I was able to successfully display spitfire.jpg, which is 771 blocks. Another image in the same directory that is about 3700 blocks won't display. I started a new browser session and now the 771 block spitfire.jpg image won't display. I've flushed the logs and there is nothing noted in the error_log. In fact, the access_log indicates both files were delivered OK (status code is 200) or should be available in cache (status code = 304, not modified). I see similar behavior trying to view images with Netscape 7.2 or IE 6. I can use an FTP client on my PC and the images transfer to my PC and display properly without incident, so I'm confident the files don't really contain errors as indicated by the "cannot be displayed" message. I've reviewed the httpd.conf file carefully and made only minimal changes to the template provided with the installation kit. I'm not sure where else to look to explain the behavior I'm seeing. My initial questions are: Anyone else using CSWS V2.0 with MultiNet V5.0 on OpenVMS V7.3-2? If so, any problems displaying large images? If not, any suggestions what logs or configuration settings I should review to understand and resolve this problem? It seems to me there some kind of MultiNet setting involved since CSWS access_log indicates all images have been provided successfully. When I boot the server from power up DEC windows on my monitor is frozen. Then if I reboot the server via a vt510 connected on the console port DEC windows works perfectly. I have installed VMS taking all the defaults but initializing the disk. I have installed no layered products or patches. I have not modified any startup files or configured DECnet or TCPIP. I have installed the hobbyist base VMS licence and dw-motif licence. I have added MIN_GBLSECTIONS=1000 to modparams.dat and run autogen to remove the message about global sections on the booting of VMS. I have compared the DEC windows server error logs to see if there is any differences between the one created on power up and the one created after the software reboot. There are no apparent differences. This occurs each time I boot my alpha server from power up. But works perfectly after the reboot. Does anyone know what is causing this? What information would be useful to track down the source of this problem? Wow - google has changed????? Here we have 3 BBC available channels: BBC World , BBC Canada and BBC Kids. BBC World is the 24 hours a day news channel with excellent documentaries and interviews between the 30 minute hourly newscasts. (CNN USA has no news between 21:00 and 05:00). It was the BBC which uncovered the genocide in Darfour/Sudan and brought videotape as proof. However, their current coverage of the tsunami crisis lacks perspective. Reporter says people don't have enough water to clean themselves (leading to disease etc), yet, he is perfectly clean , clean clothes etc. One report talks about total devastation and blocked roads, yet, the street lights are on, and there are cars circulating on the road. (I assume all media outlets are the same though). There was one quick glimpse of reality however in Banda Ache when the reporter did show the house they lived in and the house was in good shape. So not the whole city was destroyed. The bright side of this is that on a day to day basis, even though reporters may not say it, you can see over their shoulders that things are moving forwards. Having said this, there are areas where the destruction is total and where whole villages were simply wiped off the map like when you shake an etch-a-sketch. There are individual stories that are coming out though which are really touching. Like a guy searching for his brother and after having done the hospitals, went to the "morgue" and eventually did find his brother and was able to put closure. Or worse, the story of the mother who was holding onto her 2 kids and had to let go of one in order to grab onto something and save herself and one of the 2 kids. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 31 Dec 2004 20:19:54 -0500 From: "DAVID TURNER" Subject: Island extended and mail order service contracts Message-ID: We now offer service contracts on the following systems Alphaserver DS10 466mhz$395 per year Alphaserver DS10 617Mhz $500 per year Alphastation XP1000 500Mhz $500 per year Alphastation XP1000 667Mhz $650 per year Alphaserver 1000a 266-500 $700 per year Alphaserver DS20 500Mhz single CPU $800 per year Alphaserver DS20 e 667 single CPU $900 per year Alphaserver DS20e 833 single CPU $1000 per year Alphaserver ES40 Model 1 and 3 500 or 667Mhz $1400 per year This is for base systems and 1 p/supply For a detailed quote email us at sales@hpaq.net We ship parts by Fedex P1 and can also provide installation of parts at additional charge Honestly most parts for Alpha systems are user installable - when necessary we ship base boxes when motherboards etc are the issue We are 1 of 4 major resellers that are a stocking reseller of Alpha (we only sell Alpha) parts and systems -- Island Computers US Corp 2700 Gregory St Suite 180 Savannah GA 31404 Tel: 912 4476622 Fax: 912 201 0402 Email: dbturner@icusc.com ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 31 Dec 2004 21:55:06 GMT From: Beach Runner Subject: Re: Migration from SCSI to EMC Message-ID: <_UjBd.163364$8G4.136084@tornado.tampabay.rr.com> Lee Mah wrote: > We have two classes of disks experiencing the same symptoms: > 1. Edit SYS$SYSTEM:MODPARAMS.DAT and change/add ALLOCLASS=1 (or some other non-zero desired allocation class), run autogen and reboot. _OpenVMS System Manager's Manual: Tuning, Monitoring, and Complex Systems_ chapter "Managing System Parameters" has more about autogen. -- Rob Brown b r o w n a t g m c l d o t c o m G.
